Turtle Lake (WQOW) - Prosecutors say a mistake by an area bank was apparently too tempting for a Barron woman and now she faces felony charges.
The Bank of Turtle Lake contacted police after noticing an employee had mistakenly deposited more than $11,000 in Marlene Mitthun's account. It was supposed to go into the account of an area store.
But Mitthun allegedly started spending the money, going through more than $6,000 in less than two weeks.
Police say she told them she thought the deposit was a tax refund. But they say she conceded she was not expecting it to be that much and then admitted she was going through a rough time financially. Mitthun is now charged with felony theft.
