Gov. Walker shares advice with Gov. Malloy

MADISON (WKOW) -- Governor Scott Walker said he reached out to his counterpart in Connecticut, to offer counsel after last week's school shootings.

Walker said he talked with Gov. Dan Malloy about how Wisconsin dealt with the shootings in Brookfield and Oak Creek.

"Our experience was for the first few days, the most important thing to focus on, first and foremost making sure people are safe, but after that really comforting the families, thinking about the victims. I think all your focus on that and letting it be for a while before you sort out what other policy decisions might come out of that," said Walker.

The governor said in the case of the salon shooting in Brookfield in particular, as more details came out, his administration learned about the need for more resources to track people who have restraining orders in domestic violence cases and better ways of training law enforcement officials, both things he'll consider including in his next budget.
