NEWTOWN, Conn. (WKOW) -- Most schools in Newtown, Connecticut will open back up for classes Tuesday, with the exception of Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The site of the mass shooting Friday will remain closed. It's been designated as a crime scene and state police say it could be months before police turn the school back over to the district. School officials plan to send Sandy Hook students to a former middle school in a neighboring town later in the week.
Some parents of other schools still plan to keep their children home from school Tuesday. The mother of one 15-year-old says if her son wants to stay home, she'll let him stay home, but she thinks "going back to a routine is a good idea."
A man whose 10-year-old daughter attends a local Catholic school says it's time for her to get back to classes, though he admits that he's worried.
Local police and school officials have been discussing how and when to increase security. State police say they will be on alert for threats and hoaxes.
