MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police are looking for a man suspected of attempting to steal copper wiring.
A man wearing a white hard hat was seen eyeballing electrical wiring at a remodeling project at the Cress Funeral Home on University Ave. A construction worker at the site didn't recognize the man and asked him what he was doing there. The man said he was electrician named "Tom Schmidt" but couldn't show any identification.
The suspicious man left in a green Chrysler convertible with a tan top. The MPD received another report involving a similarly described man, driving the same type of vehicle, had attempted to steal copper wiring from the west side Menards shortly before the man in the white hard hat showed up at the funeral home site.
