Eau Claire (WQOW) - For weeks now gifts have been collected for area families in need. Thursday, they were given out, just in time for Christmas.
Parents stopped by the Salvation Army in Eau Claire to collect donations from the annual Toys for Tots drive. The toys are for families who need a little extra help putting gifts under the tree this holiday season. Today volunteers helped hand out the gifts.
Ann Newman and her son Tyler spent the day volunteering. Ann says, "The days been great. We represent the Marine Corps, so that really helps us wanting to teach him the time of giving, and let him realize it. Because it has been tough throughout the years, he's had help with the Toys for Tots and now it's our time to give it back."
This year the Salvation Army is helping out over 500 families, that's up a bit from last year.
