Jail time for drunk driver who hid 60 feet up in tree after crash

Polk County (WQOW) - A drunk driver who went to extreme measures to avoid capture was sentenced Friday in Polk County.

Back in October a Jeep left Highway 8 and rolled, then caught fire.  A witness said the driver ran into the woods.

That's where deputies eventually found Jennifer Bernard, hiding in a tree. Deputies say despite the fact her alcohol level was twice the legal limit she managed to climb 60 feet off the ground. Bernard, of Balsam Lake, came down willingly.

A judge ordered her to spend five days in jail. She also lost her driver's license for over a year.
