Eau Claire (WQOW) - For some
people, the weekend before Christmas is all about travel. But for some area
residents, there are still a few more gifts to buy, wrap, and tuck under the
tree. We talked to some of those last minute shoppers about what they still
have left on their list.
Christmas shopping isn't quite done
for everyone in the Chippewa
Valley.
"Lots of people
looking around for little gifts, to give to coworkers, to give to
teachers...something special, something a little out of the ordinary," said
Jake Lindgren, Sales Associate at Avalon Floral.
And stores are expecting to stay
busy as the shopping continues.
"A lot of sense of
urgency, we're expecting that today, and definitely on Monday. We are open on
Monday. We're open until one, so I'm sure we'll see those customers coming in in
a rush," Lindgren said.
Shoppers we spoke to had different
explanations for the last minute spending.
"School went until
the 17th, that was just a lot of big projects and tests, you know, busy things.
And then I was visiting family right after that got done, so now all of a
sudden I'm going "Oh!! It's almost Christmas, shoot! I've got to get my
shopping done! It just totally snuck up on me this year," said Megan Reynolds
of Eau Claire.
"There's no reason
other than procrastination," said Joe Larson, also of Eau Claire.
Then there's anxiety of shopping the
weekend before Christmas.
"I'm afraid that I
won't find that perfect thing that I'm looking for. You know, things are going
to be sold out, or not going to get the best deals because I already missed the
big shopping sales. I'm just hoping I find what I need," Reynolds said.
And finding that last perfect item
means some shoppers will be back again shopping on Sunday.
"I'm hoping today
and tomorrow. Tomorrow is kind of my cut-off date. You need at least one day to
wrap the presents, relax a little bit. So tomorrow is definitely going to be
the last day for me," said Reynolds.
So what's
the most popular item for people running out of time? Over 60 percent of people
say they'll grab a gift card as a last second present according to Consumer Reports.
