NEWWARK TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- An off duty Rock County 911 Center dispatcher notified authorities of a residential fire Sunday in the Town of Newark.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office says Aisha Brunton stopped at 9616 West Highway 81 and knocked on the door to alert an 87-year-old man that the home was on fire. He safely got out of the house.
A number of fire departments from the area responded. Once they arrived on the scene, the second story of the house erupted into flames. Authorities say they shut down Highway 81 between County Highway H and South Olson Road at 11:20 a.m.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office says the home appears to be a total loss.
