Jackson County (WQOW) - An area young woman remains hospitalized Monday after the Amish buggy she was riding in collided with a car.
Lydia Borntreger, 18, of Fairchild was airlifted from the scene and
is now listed in 'serious' condition. Her father says she underwent
surgery to remove blood from the brain and surgery on her fractured
pelvis.
The state patrol says the buggy, driven by her 20-year-old
brother, pulled out of a driveway onto Highway 10 and was hit by a car
that was unable to avoid it.
The crash happened Sunday night near Fairchild.

Osseo (WQOW) – A teenager is airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a highway is shut down after a horse and buggy collides with a car near Osseo. It happened around 7:30 Sunday night. The state patrol says a Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 18-year-old Chantel Formeister, was unable to avoid a horse and buggy that had come out from a private driveway onto Highway 10. The two vehicles collided, shutting down both lanes of traffic. 18-year-old Lydia Borntreger was airlifted to the hospital. The driver and passenger in the Grand Am and the driver of the horse and buggy were uninjured. Our reporter on scene says debris was scattered across about 15- 20 yards of the highway. Highway 10 was reopened around 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, December 23, 2012, an auto driven by Chantel A. Formeister, age 18, of Eau Claire, WI
was traveling on US-10 eastbound near CTH-M, Jackson County, Garfield Township. A horse and
buggy entered the highway from a private driveway into the path of the oncoming auto. Formeister
was unable to avoid striking the buggy. A passenger in the buggy,Lydia E. Borntreger, age 18,
Fairchild, WI suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene. The driver of the buggy,
Edward E. Borntreger, age 20, Fairchild, WI was uninjured. A passenger in the Formeister auto was
uninjured. The crash remains under investigation by the WI State Patrol.
