Warden: Waupun inmate attacks officer

WAUPUN (WKOW) -- The Waupun Correctional Institution in Dodge County locked down a cellblock for about five hours Monday after officials say an inmate assaulted a prison officer.

The attack happened at 7:00 a.m. while the officer was performing his duties, according to Warden Bill Pollard. The cell block where the assault happened was locked down while the Dodge County Sheriff's office investigated.

The inmate involved is serving a 10-year sentence for second-degree homicide and has been placed in segregation. Sheriff Todd Nehls says more charges are pending.

The injured officer was treated and has since returned to work. Officials say all inmates and staff are safe and the prison is operating normally.
