St. Croix County (Press Release) - On 12-27-12 at 8:29 a.m. law enforcement and EMS were dispatched to a report of a person that jumped off of the I-94 bridge over the St. Croix River in Hudson.
Witnesses reported that the woman stopped her vehicle on the eastbound shoulder of the bridge about 100 yards west of the Wisconsin shoreline, leaving her 11-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The woman then climbed the railing and jumped to her death.
The woman's body was recovered by the use of an air boat from the ice covered St. Croix River with the assistance of the Washington County Minnesota Sheriff's Office, the Wisconsin DNR and the Lower St. Croix Valley Fire and EMS Service. Also assisting on the scene was the Hudson Police Department.
The victim is a 48-year-old Pierce County resident. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of her family.
The daughter is now in the care of other family members in Wisconsin.
The incident remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
