Chippewa County (WQOW) - A
driver is lucky to be alive after her car collided with a train Thursday
afternoon in Chippewa County.
It
happened around three o'clock Thursday afternoon near Lake Wissota on County Highway
K. The sheriff's department says a woman didn't yield to the flashing railroad
crossing lights and didn't hear the train's horn. She continued driving through
the intersection, and was struck by a train engine.
"When these types of calls come out, it's usually not this good of
an outcome. It's a very traumatic incident, the fortunate thing here this
afternoon is that everyone here walked away with very minor injuries," says Chippewa County
Sheriff's Department Captain Gene Gutsch.
The sheriff's department says the driver and the
train conductor were both shaken up. There was no damage to the train, but the
car's engine was badly damaged. The driver is expected to be ticketed.
