Altoona (WQOW) - A local driver accused of hitting a man in a wheelchair and a woman who was pushing the wheelchair has been sentenced for hit-and-run driving.
Michael Sveda will be on probation for a year. He must also pay restitution and apologize to the victims.
In September Sveda's car hit the two people from behind on a street in Altoona. They were both taken to the hospital with relatively minor injuries. Sveda left the scene, but turned himself in several days later. He told police he was blinded by the sun which officers conceded was a likely factor.
