Eau Claire (WQOW) - Emergency crews evacuated a building
in Eau Claire
this morning after a woman's vehicle crashed into it.
Police
received a call around 10 a.m. Friday that a woman's red Chevrolet Monte Carlo
struck another vehicle before hitting the Oakridge Medical
Building. The driver was
transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one was
walking outside at the time of the accident, but people were told to leave the
building.
"They did evacuate
the building, it came in with the call that it smelled like gas. Our main
concern at first was that they possibly struck a gas meter coming into the
building or that the gas tank on the vehicle had ruptured," said Lt. Ben
Hays of the Eau Claire Fire Department.
The Eau Claire fire department
didn't find anything and people were eventually allowed to return inside after
about 15 minutes. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the
accident. Damage to the building was estimated at $20,000.
