Badgers plan to wear red pants in Rose Bowl to honor Alvarez

LOS ANGELES (WKOW) -- The red pants are back in Pasadena.

Barry Alvarez made those red pants his trademark look in his coaching days, and now this year's Badger football team wants to bring back Barry's style for the Rose Bowl.

You can expect to see the Badgers sporting Barry's signature style - white jerseys, red pants - on game day.

"Coach Alvarez had his team wear white jerseys and red pants so we thought it'd be nice to come back and wear red pants with white socks and have a throwback feel with Coach Alvarez," senior cornerback Devin Smith said.

Even at practice, you can catch Barry strutting around in style in those pants, and it's clearly rubbed off on the players.

"I think it'll give us a little bit more swagger going into the game," junior running back James White said.

"It does make it fun. It gives guys something to be excited about and obviously, everyone enjoys looking good out there," senior quarterback Curt Phillips said.

The Badgers' coach couldn't be more pleased his team appreciates his sense of style.

"I think that's great. I love red pants. Whatever they want to wear is fine with me - we've got white pants and red pants, black socks and white socks. Whatever they want to wear, they can wear," Alvarez said.

The Badger red is actually the same shade as the Stanford cardinal, just one of many similarities between these two Rose Bowl opponents.

Wisconsin and Stanford kick off in the Rose Bowl on Tuesday, January 1.
