UPDATE: New information released in Rusk County homicide

Rusk County (WQOW) - We have more new information on a murder investigation in Rusk County.

Preliminary autopsy results are now in. The sheriff tells us Darlene Lazar was shot twice. The shooting happened Monday night at a home in rural Hawkins.  Lazar was 65 years old.

Her husband, Donald, 65, is being held in her death. On Monday a judge ordered him held on a $500,000 cash bail. He remains in the Rusk County jail after being arrested for first degree intentional homicide.

Detectives still don't know what prompted the shooting.

We do know that Donald Lazar was arrested in October for domestic abuse disorderly conduct.  In that case, he allegedly got into a physical altercation with his wife in their car. She was not injured in that incident.

Lazar was also charged eight years ago with domestic abuse battery and disorderly conduct, also involving his wife.

Formal murder charges against him are expected to be filed yet this week.
