Barry Alvarez: 'Just give me a whistle'

PASADENA, Calif. (WKOW) -- The Badgers desperately want to avoid a third straight loss at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday against Stanford.

There are 56 Badgers playing in their third consecutive Rose Bowl, but they still don't know what it feels like to walk away victorious.

You can't ask for more motivation than that but there is more, because the players want to win this game for Barry Alvarez.

"We definitely want to win this game for each other -- our teammates -- but I guess in a way, for Barry swooping us off our feet, based on Coach Bielema's decision to leave. So we want to reward him with a win because he deserves everything he's prepared for leading up to this game and he deserves a victory. That's what we're fighting for," UW running back Montee Ball said.

"Just give me a whistle. That's all I need is a whistle and a bunch of guys to coach, and I feel very comfortable with that. It's been fun for me. This has been like a gift. To be able to do this and on this stage is truly special," Alvarez said.

What would be really special is if Alvarez could come away as the first Big Ten coach ever to go 4-0 at the Rose Bowl.

Kickoff between Wisconsin and Stanford is at 4:10 p.m. CT on ESPN.
