Eau Claire (WQOW) - Everyone is getting used to a school security policy that was enhanced after the tragedy in Connecticut.
In Eau Claire, all doors at school are now locked during the school day. Check-in procedures are also in place. Visitors must check in at the main office and photo IDs will be required for visitors that staff members don't know. Both high schools still have open campuses, but the number of doors students have access to has been limited, and all doors are now more heavily monitored. "We had already started working on security measures as early as 2000 when we implemented the camera system and door access and badges and things like that, so we were in a good position. At this point, we're refining the system that's already in place," said ECASD Buildings & Grounds Director Charlie Kramer.
The school district has asked for people to be patient and says everyone has been very understanding about the enhanced policy.
