MONONA (WKOW) – The Monona Fire Department says no one was injured after a fire broke out in a single family home early Saturday morning.
The Monona Fire Department responded to the structure fire around 12:53 a.m. on the 5200 block of Schluter Road.
Officials said the residents were home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape safely. One resident did seek medical attention for breathing difficulties.
According to Monona fire Department, the fire damaged the second story of the building with heavy smoke, water and heat damage throughout the rest of the building.
Authorities estimate the fire caused $225,000 of damage to the building and contents.
Upon arrival, authorities found heavy smoke conditions. Due to the extreme conditions, a box alarm was called and units from McFarland, Blooming Grove, Fitchburg, Town of Madison, Cottage Grove and Maple Bluff to assist with the control of the fire. Authorities said the fire was brought under control at 3:31 a.m. Fire fighters remained on scene until 6:25 a.m.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is still under investigation. The entire building was uninhabitable and the owners of the house were able to stay with relatives for the remainder of the night.

The fire started on the 5300 block of Schluter Road about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The initial call reported one person trapped on the second floor of the home. According to Dane County Communications, there are no injuries reported at this time and everyone is safely out of the building.
