Organizer says gun control debate brings new interest to WI gun show

LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- As gun control talks dominate lawmakers discussions after the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school, hundreds of people are showing interest in the industry.

10 gun control bills were proposed on the first day of this latest Congressional session, in response to last month's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 children and six adults.

This weekend hundreds attended the "Bob and Rocco Gun Show" at the La Crosse Center. Show director Bob Pucci says he believes the strong turnout is because of the recent political heat surrounding guns.

"We're up from years past but that's because of all the craziness going on with the politics right now, with the talk of banning guns again and banning magazines and banning ammo," says Pucci.

Four gun shows near Newtown, CT recently canceled their events in the wake of the shootings, but one about 40 miles away from the school went on. Organizers said their show only displayed antique and collectible guns, not military style assault weapons.
