Polk County (WQOW) - New information on a crash that sent six people to the hospital. It happened Sunday evening near Frederic, in Polk County.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says a van had stalled and was stopped partially in a lane of Highway 35 when it was hit from behind by a pickup truck. The Swanson family, including mom Tara and her three daughters were taken to the hospital. One of the girls, 11, was then airlifted to the Twin Cities. Another girl, Heather Gillitzer was also injured.
The driver of the truck, Abel Lipoff, of Luck was arrested for second offense drunk driving. Deputies say his blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.
Police say Lipoff told them he didn't see the van at first because it didn't have any lights on. A passenger in his truck also went to the hospital.

Press Release from the Wisconsin State Patrol: At 5:25 PM on Sunday January 06, 2013 a crash occurred on WIS 35 SB at near the intersection of 330th Avenue in POLK County near FREDERIC.
Assisting agencies included Polk County Sheriff's Department, Frederic Fire Department, Luck Fire Department, and Polk County EMS.
The crash involved 6 injuries.
The details of the crash are as follows:
On 01-06-13, at approximately 5:25 p.m., a Chevrolet Van was southbound on Highway 35 in the area of 330th Avenue. The van became disabled and the driver coasted to a stop in the right hand passing lane on Highway 35. The driver of the van left the scene and was attempting to obtain help.
The van was still occupied by his wife, 3 minor daughters, and a minor family friend. It was at this time a Ford pickup truck, traveling southbound in the passing lane, collided with the rear of the van.
The front of the truck entered the passenger compartment at the rear of the van causing serious injury. The 5 occupants of the van and a passenger in the truck were transported to the St. Croix Falls Hospital for injuries. The driver of the truck, that struck the van, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated by the Polk County Sheriff's Department. The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating and reconstructing the crash. Further information will be provided as it becomes available
