CENTENNIAL, CO (WKOW) -- The man police say carried out a shooting rampage at a Colorado movie theater has a preliminary hearing that starts Monday.

Prosecutors will outline their case against suspect James Holmes. The preliminary hearing is expected to last several days. Holmes is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.

After the hearing, the judge will rule whether the evidence is sufficient to put Holmes on trial.

Legal analysts say the hearing could set the stage for a negotiated plea agreement by giving each side a better understanding of the other's case.

Many survivors and family members of the dead are expected to attend.
