Too warm for Eagle River ice palace

EAGLE RIVER (WKOW) -- A signature of the snow season in northern Wisconsin is missing this year.

The Ice Palace has been built in Eagle River almost every year for the last 80 years.

But not this year.

It's been too warm, and the ice isn't thick enough.

Eagle River's Ice Palace is usually made of almost three thousand 12-inch thick blocks of ice, pulled by hand from Silver Lake.

Another winter tradition in Eagle River will go on; festivities kick off this weekend for the two week snowmobile derby.
