Independence (WQOW) - A woman was killed after being hit
by a vehicle in Independence. It happened before 6 o'clock Wednesday night
on Highway 93 near 3rd street. The driver was interviewed and then
released. Police say alcohol does not
appear to be a factor. No names are
being released. If there's more
information tomorrow about the investigation, we'll pass it along.

On Wednesday January 9th,
2013 at 5:54 pm. The Trempealeau
County Dispatch
Center received a 911
call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on Washington Street (State Road 93) near 3rd Street.
The Trempealeau County Sheriff's
Department and Independence Police Department responded to the crash and found
an unresponsive female and began first aid. Medical personnel arrived on scene
a short time later and performed CPR on the victim. The victim was transported
to Tri-County Hospital
in Whitehall
where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the striking vehicle
was taken to Tri-County
Hospital for a legal
blood draw, which is standard procedure in fatal crashes. The driver was then
interviewed and released. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The investigation is ongoing and no
names are being released at this time.
