Man hospitalized after ATV breaks through ice

Posted:

Rusk County (WQOW) - Officials say an area man is lucky to be alive after his ATV broke through the ice on a river.

A driver found John Zupan, 75, walking along County Highway E in Rusk County late Thursday morning. His clothes were soaked, and he was suffering from frostbite and hypothermia.

The Holcombe man said his four-wheeler had gone through the ice on the Flambeau River the night before. The sheriff says Zupan apparently spent the night in the woods.

He is in the hospital and in stable condition.
