49er QB has Wisconsin fans

NEW LONDON (WKOW) -- There's an unusual connection in Saturday night's playoff game between the Packers and 49ers.

Each of the starting quarterbacks grew up in the other state and were fans of the opposing team.

Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers lived the first four years of his life in Wisconsin and several relatives are still in New London today.

Like them, Kaepernick was a huge Packers fan as a kid, but like him, his relatives will be cheering for San Francisco on Saturday.

"You kind of feel like you're betraying your old team but then you're so excited because I think everyone of us has the motto of family first and that has always been the thing," said Kathy Algiers, Colin Kaepernick's aunt.

"We're pretty excited. This kind of came up on us fast. We knew he had a good shot at starting sometime down the road, we knew he was talented enough but he just had to get his chance and he got his chance and he just ran with it. It's great," said his uncle, Rand Kaepernick.

Colin Kaepernick's family moved to California when he was about 5, and that's where he went to high school, then on to the University of Nevada, then drafted two years ago by San Francisco.
