MADISON (WKOW) -- The Republican-controlled state senate is expected to pass new, stricter rules for spectators this week.
GOP members released a resolution Monday calling for anyone who violates chamber rules or policies to be removed for 24 hours. Third-time violators would be banned from the chamber for the remainder of the two-year legislative session.
The resolution also would prohibit spectators from displaying any objects and using any electronic devices. Currently spectators are barred from displaying only signs and using cell phones and pagers.
The rules would apply to Senate committee meetings.
A vote in the Senate is expected Tuesday. Assembly Republicans adopted similar rules last week.
The GOP wants to avoid a repeat of last session, when protesters routinely disrupted committees and floor sessions.
