Multiple reports of vehicle break-ins in Cottage Grove


COTTAGE GROVE (WKOW) -- Tuesday morning, Cottage Grove police responded to the 4500 block of Sandpiper Trail for a homeowner who confronted a male breaking into a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The homeowner says the suspect is a white male who was wearing a dark colored jacket and blue jeans.  The male took off running.

With assistance from the Dane County Sheriff's Office and the Town of Madison Police canine, a perimeter was set up and a track performed.

The suspect was not located, but it is believed he may have gotten into a vehicle parked in the area and left.

Police canvassed the area and were able to recover some stolen items. 

Police also found other vehicles broken into on Mourning Dove Drive, as well as, Trush Lane and Falcon Court.  A report of a theft from a shed on Gaston Road was also called in.

Vehicles that had been broken into were both locked and unlocked.

Cottage Grove Police Chief Chris Hughes stated, "these crimes were committed during a time when most people and kids in this subdivision are going to work or school." 

Anyone witnessing what they feel to be a suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhood are urged to call police immediately.
