Leftover milk from Golden Guernsey to be distributed

WAUKESHA (WKOW) -- Tens of thousands of gallons of milk from the shuttered Golden Guernsey plant in Waukesha won't be wasted after all.

It's going to be distributed to food pantries across the state and some of it may wind up in Madison.

More than eight semi truck loads are now in the process of being moved. Most of the milk has sell dates of January 20-22, so it needs to get out before it's too late.

"We've got ten days, literally. So, this is something people shouldn't think 'Oh I'll get to it next week.' This is shelf-perishable product. It's not stable like this. It needs to get out and it needs to get out as quickly as possible," said Sherrie Tussler with the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee.

The Hunger Task Force is coordinating the dispersal to other food pantries throughout the state.

The milk had been under the control of a court-appointed trustee since Golden Guernsey filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.
