St. Paul, Minnesota (WQOW) -- Eau Claire native and former Wisconsin Badger Jake Dowell is getting ready for his first NHL season with the Minnesota Wild.
Dowell, who formerly suited up for the Blackhawks & Stars, is looking to establish his role with Minnesota.
The Wild is trying to get ready in a short time, and had a scrimmage Monday at the Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota opens up the abbreviated NHL season Saturday in St. Paul, when the Wild hosts the Avalanche.
"I know my role," says Dowell, "I know what's expected of me, I think my job right now is to come in here and really show the staff and management that I'm here to work and do whatever they need me to do. I try to be whatever type of player that they need me to be and I think I've done that so far, but it is a short period of time to fill that role."
Dowell says he's got a plan to deal with all the hometown ticket requests.
"I nipped that in the butt right away," says Dowell, "and let everyone know that they can, I'll help out when I can, but other than some immediate family, you know, they're in charge of getting their own tickets. You know, everybody back home has been real excited, ever since I signed here, and I'm excited to be here, and be so close to home, and I definitely want to be here for a while, and as long as I can so that I can help out the team, and be able to play in front of my home town fans."
