WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKOW) -- The Consumer Price Index for consumers in the Midwest was down 0.2% in December, marking the third consecutive monthly decline, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Regional Commissioner Charlene Peiffer noted, when talking about the latest numbers released on Wednesday, that the decrease was largely attributable to a 3.1% drop in gas prices.
In December, food costs rose 0.3% and the index for the Midwest was up 1.8% from December 2011 to December 2012.
