MADISON (WKOW) -- Police are looking for a burglar who targeted the Special Olympics office in Madison.
Officers say a Special Olympics staff member stopped by the office on Crossroads Drive Saturday afternoon. She found someone there who told her she was with law enforcement and taking part in the Special Olympics Torch Run.
When the staff member became suspicious, the man took off with a Torch Run jacket, a backpack filled with items and two Special Olympics tote bags.
Police say the man walked into a hotel nearby and that's where he disappeared.
But officers say the stolen items were found in some bushes outside of the hotel.
The MPD is one of many state law enforcement agencies that participate in the charity, and since 1986 the Wisconsin's Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised over $19-million for Special Olympics.
