MADISON (WKOW) -- New preliminary estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics(BLS) show Wisconsin gained a total 1,300 jobs in December, with 4,500 jobs added in the private sector with 3,200 government jobs lost.
The BLS also released revised numbers for the month of November, showing Wisconsin gained 6,300 jobs in November, down from the 10,300 originally estimated.
Wisconsin's unemployment rate stayed at 6.6% in December and remains a little more than a full point below the national average.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics preliminary estimate is based on a survey of 3.5% of Wisconsin employers. The revised BLS numbers show Wisconsin gained 11,400 jobs from January through November.
The latest quarterly data from a census of employers shows Wisconsin gained 35,381 private sector jobs from June 2011 to June 2012.
