Man suffers burns in barn fire

EDGERTON (WKOW) -- Early Thursday afternoon, the Edgerton Fire Department responded to a building fire on County Road H, a private farm in Fulton Township.

Upon arrival, deputies with the Rock County Sheriff's Department, found a barn fully engulfed in flames.

The investigation shows the property owner, Rick Thompson, age 54, was working on the fuel system of a vehicle when the fuel ignited with a work light, starting a fire around the vehicle.

Thompson was able to escape, but suffered burns on his legs and arms.  He was transported to an area hospital.

Multiple departments were called in to assist.  Edgerton Fire Command was in charge of the scene and will stay on scene until the structure is deemed safe.

The barn is a total loss.  County H between West County M and Gibbs Lake Rd will be closed until early evening to assist Fire crews in clean up the scene.
