Chippewa Falls detective retires after nearly 30 years

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - The retirement of a top Chippewa Falls police detective marks the latest in a string of recent retirements that has the department racing to fill the vacancies.

Thursday was the last day on the job for Detective Sergeant Dave Johnson. He's retiring after nearly 30 years on the job.  Last year, Johnson was named homicide detective of the year in Wisconsin.

Johnson's retirement comes about a month after four other top cops in Chippewa Falls retired.  Combined, they had about 150 years of experience. Chief Wendy Stelter says other employees are working overtime to fill the gap. And the hiring process is in high gear. On Friday, more than 100 job applicants will undergo testing.
