MADISON (WKOW) -- A state commission will release a report next week on ways to pay for transportation projects.
One proposal is to tax the number of miles you drive each year.
The mileage-based registration idea would apply to people who drive more than 3,000 miles a year.
It would add just over 1 cent per mile, on top of the $75 they pay each year to renew their license.
Drivers would have to document their annual mileage.
The tax would help pay to maintain the state's highway system.
The commission will also propose an increase in the gas tax, but Governor Walker has said he's against that idea.
