Sen. Scott Fitzgerald on Capitol City Sunday

MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin's Senate Majority Leader says he has a lot to accomplish in the new legislative session.

Senator Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) is the featured guest on this weekend's edition of Capitol City Sunday.

Sen. Fitzgerald talks with Host Greg Neumann about school vouchers, venture capital and the new mining bill Republicans put forth earlier this week.

He says the bill is a good starting point, because it provides certainty for iron mining companies that want to invest here.

"We want to make sure there's a very specific timeline in place, so that you're not left kind of wondering if your investment is going to be wasted," said Sen. Fitzgerald.

But Anne Sayers, spokesperson with the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, says the law is too extreme and allows iron mining companies to bypass state environmental laws.

"What this bill does is exempts mining companies from having to follow those rules. And it says if a mining company needs to do that in order to access that iron ore, then they may do that," said Sayers.

Sayers will appear on the second half of the show.

Capitol City Sunday airs at 9:00 a.m. on WKOW 27.
