Gun enthusiasts gather at state capitols across the country

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW)-- Hundreds of people rallied at the state capitol for gun rights Friday afternoon. Demonstrators are speaking out against talks about stricter gun control in Washington DC.

Nearly every other state held similar rallies outside their state capitols. It's all part of the "Guns Across America" campaign. All over the country gun enthusiasts are holding events to celebrate the second amendment.

Organizers say it's their response to the recent gun control laws being proposed after the Sandy Hook shooting. Here in Wisconsin demonstrators traveled from all over the state to rally at the capitol. Many carrying concealed firearms and holding signs speaking out for gun rights.

"Just to show support for our rights and show that we are peaceful. Despite what some people might think we're gun-toting crazy people but it's our right to protect ourselves," says gun owner Ian Horning.

Rally supporters say they're unhappy with many of President Obama's 23 executive orders on gun control and the proposals to congress. From limiting ammunition magazine sizes to reinstating the assault weapons ban.

A handful of protestors against the rally also showed up carrying their own signs. Nationwide gun control advocates also plan to hold their own event on Sunday called National Gun Prevention Sabbath. The event will be held at more than 150 places of worship.
