LAFAYETTE COUNTY (WKOW) – A 77-year-old Illinois woman reported missing on Friday has been found dead Saturday night in Argyle Township.
On January 19, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office received information about a missing elderly woman from Freeport, Illinois. Deputies were notified of a vehicle sitting just off Old Q Road around 6:16 p.m. that fit the description of the missing woman's vehicle.
Deputies searched the area and found the woman deceased about 30 feet from her car in some trees and bushes.
Authorities identified the missing woman as Mary T. Scudder of Freeport, Illinois. Mrs. Scudder had been reported missing by her family members since Friday, January 18.
The Deputy Coroner Rudy Gebhardt pronounced Mrs. Scudder dead at the scene. The initial investigation shows that exposure to the elements was believed to be a contributing factor to her death.
An autopsy is planned and the investigation continues.
