SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) - A snowmobiler who'd been missing in the Superior area
since Saturday has been found, safe but suffering from effects of the cold.
Superior police say 51-year-old Craig Friebe was found Monday morning on the
ice of the Nemadji River. He was taken to a hospital with symptoms of frostbite
and hypothermia.
Friebe was able to identify himself to responders and tell them his
snowmobile ran out of gas. He'd been walking since then, but it wasn't clear for
how long. He was found about 20 miles from where he'd last been seen.
Authorities spent all day Sunday looking for him. They suspended their search
at nightfall.
Friebe went missing as the coldest temperatures of the season settled across
the region. Low temperatures in Superior were below zero Sunday night.
Anyone who knows Friebe's whereabouts is asked to call Douglas County authorities at (715)394-4432.
