Police remind people to check on the elderly

OSHKOSH (WKOW) -- A month after an Oshkosh man's body was found in his home, local officials remind people to keep an eye out for their elderly neighbors.

An Oshkosh Northwestern report states the number of people who die alone and remain undiscovered appears to be on the rise.

The Winnebago County Aging and Disability Resource Center says society has changed in the past decade, as younger people seem to spend more time online and less time visiting with older or disabled neighbors.

Authorities would like to change that.  Police are asking residents to periodically check on neighbors who are ill and live alone.

The 51-year-old Oshkosh man was found dead in his home Christmas Eve.  He'd been deceased for up to three weeks.
