SUPERIOR (WKOW) -- A snowmobiler who had been missing in the Superior area since Saturday has been found safe, but suffering from effects of the cold.
51-year-old Craig Friebe was found Monday morning on the ice of the Nemadji River. He was taken to a hospital with symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia.
Friebe was able to identify himself to responders and tell them his snowmobile ran out of gas. He had been walking, but it isn't clear for how long. He was found about 20 miles from where he was last seen.
Authorities spent the day Sunday looking for him.
Friebe went missing as the coldest temperatures of the season settled across the region. Low temperatures in Superior were below zero Sunday night.
