Polk County man calls deputies to report burglary, charged with growing marijuana

Polk County (WQOW) - A man whose Polk County home was burglarized probably wishes he had thought twice before calling police to report the theft.

The sheriffs department says John Hansen reported that someone had stolen tools, DVD's and other items from his home in Balsam Lake earlier this month.  But when deputies arrived to investigate, they immediately noticed an odor of raw marijuana in the house.

They proceeded to find a marijuana-growing operation in the basement.  27 pot plants and other marijuana was seized.  Hansen is now charged with manufacturing marijuana and being a felon in possession of a gun.
