NEW YORK (WKOW) -- Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o tells Katie Couric that he briefly lied about his online girlfriend after discovering she didn't exist.
Te'o says he didn't lie about the hoax until December. He did believe Lennay Kekua had died of cancer. A segment interview with Te'o and his parents will air Wednesday morning on "Good Morning America."
Te'o received a phone call in December from a woman saying she was Kekua, whom he believed had died in September.
Te'o says he had no part in creating the hoax.
Couric's interview with Te'o will air on Thursday.
