Lawyer: Accused murderer not competent to stand trial

Rusk County (WQOW) - A new development in the case of the Rusk County man charged with murdering his wife.

Donald Lazar, 65, is charged with shooting and killing his wife Darlene. She was shot twice at their home in rural Hawkins in late December.

Now, Donald's lawyer is asking a judge to order that his client be examined to determine if he is competent to stand trial.

In a motion filed with the court, Lazar's lawyer says he believes his client lacks the mental capacity to understand the proceedings or to assist in his own defense.

A judge is expected to consider the motion at a hearing set for early February.
