Eau Claire (WQOW) - After almost four months of investigating the mysterious death of an Eau Claire woman, police say the case is now closed.
On Friday, police told us the death of Cheryl Lechner has officially been ruled a suicide. Lechner's body was found in October in the basement of her home on Hamilton Avenue. She had a stab or puncture wound to the chest that police believe was self-inflicted.
An autopsy showed she died of smoke inhalation from a small fire in the basement. The fire department says the cause of that fire is still listed as undetermined, but police say they do not believe it was suspicious. New toxicology test results also showed no alcohol or drugs in her system. Lechner was 47 years old.
