MENOMONIE (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin soldier severely wounded in Afghanistan has returned home to thank people for their support.
Second lieutenant Jason Church got a standing ovation when he was introduced at his alma mater, Menomonie High School.
He lost both legs in a roadside bomb explosion in Afghanistan.
He said the support of his community helped in his recovery.
"The gifts, the letters, the appreciation. I honestly felt like I needed to say something. I was in La Crosse a few months ago and I really didn't say anything in Menomonie. So I asked them to be able to do that; to talk to the student body and members of the community to be able to say thank you."
Jason played football at Menomonie High School and then later at UW-La Crosse.
