DODGE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Despite recent advice from a Milwaukee County Sheriff to defend one's self, Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls is still urging his constituents to call 911 in case of an emergency.
In a radio ad last week, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told listeners that simply calling 911 and waiting for help is no longer the best option because of layoffs and furloughs. He wants people to arm themselves.
Sheriff Nehls says that the ad has caused some confusion in his county. In a statement released Monday, Nehls says he does not support Clarke's ad and would rather his constituents dial 911.
Nehls says he supports the rights of the people to protect themselves, but before exposing themselves to any danger call 911.
