Icy conditions close schools, cause detours in north central WI

MADISON (WKOW) -- Freezing rain in north central Wisconsin has canceled Gov. Scott Walker's trip to Wausau, closed schools, and detoured highway traffic.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation temporarily closed Highway 47 in both directions Tuesday morning between Neopit and the Langlade County line because of ice.

Dangerous travel conditions closed some schools Tuesday, including Antigo, Adams-Friendship, Crandon and Rhinelander.

The governor had a scheduled trip to Wausau, as part of several stops around the state to announce the new CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. The weather caused the Gov. Walker to cancel the stop.

Snow is expected to develop later Tuesday and continue to fall through Wednesday. 27 Storm Track meteorologist Brian Olson expects five to seven inches of snow accumulation on Wednesday in the Madison area.
