Eau Claire (WQOW) - The
conditions forced Eau Claire firefighters to watch their step Tuesday.
There
was a fire at a home on 4th St. just before noon. A person inside was able to
make it out safely, and call 911 from a neighbor's house. Firefighters say flames started in the
kitchen, but they aren't sure of the exact cause. Because of the slippery conditions,
firefighters put down salt and sand to help improve their footing.
Deputy Chief Duane Grunst,
with the Eau Claire Fire Department, says, "It's
incredibly dangerous, not only on your foot, but any ladders that you may
erect, stuff like that, it just does not stay down very well. So you have to be
incredibly cautious there."
The Eau Claire Fire Department is reminding everyone
to be extra cautious on icy sidewalks and roads. They say they responded to a number of slips
and falls Tuesday.
